UTICA, N.Y. — The day after state officials announced Remington Arms was investing $20 million in its facility, the manufacturer was awarded a 10-year, $79.7 million contract.
U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna, R-Barneveld, announced Friday that Remington was awarded the federal contract to manufacture sniper rifles for the military. The work will be done at the manufacturer’s Ilion location, which employs about 1,300 workers.
“There’s a glimmer of hope here,” said Frank “Rusty” Brown, chairman of the Compac Committee and a longtime Remington worker. “The employees are looking at it as maybe an opportunity that we’re gonna stay here, possibly.”
