Hanna Presents Medals to 92-year-old WWII Veteran

ONEIDA COUNTY, N.Y. — After 70 years of waiting, a 92-year-old veteran has finally received the medals he earned.

John Allen served as a private in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was in the European Theatre in Italy from 1942 to 1945.

Now, decades later, Congressman Richard Hanna finally awarded him with three medals he should have received when he was discharged.

A member of Hanna’s staff said he spent more than a year and a half tracking down Allen’s medals.

They encountered some difficulty because Allen’s service documents had been destroyed during a fire. Allen says he’s extremely grateful for their hard work.

“Now when I pass on, I’m going to leave these nice [medals] for children and my great grandchildren and all that. And I’m going to leave them, that’s what I wanted the medals for,” said WWII veteran John Allen.
