Lawmakers back weatherization program

UTICA, N.Y. — U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Richard L. Hanna are urging the Obama administration to fund programs to increase the efficiency of homes and reduce energy costs in winter months.

They are asking President Barack Obama to allocate money for the Weatherization Assistance Program and State Energy Program. Their goal is to help more families make changes to their homes to make them more energy efficient.RomeSentinel_Gillibrand

The Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency, which administers the Weatherization Assistance Program in Oneida and Herkimer counties, says it has about 2,800 families on waiting lists looking for weatherization help in their homes.
