New push to protect Rome Lab

The county’s two congressmen and both New York senators want the Air Force Research Laboratory at Griffiss spared from the budget cutter’s ax in the next federal budget.

“We hope the budget for Fiscal Year 2013 will reflect an increased investment in Rome Lab,” Defense Secretary Leon Panetta was told in a letter signed by Reps. Richard L. Hanna, R-24, Barneveld, and William L. Owens, D-23, Plattsburgh, and U.S. Sens. Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten E. Gillibrand. The federal fiscal year begins Oct. 1.

Elsewhere the letter says, “We strongly request that you work with our delegation to support and protect the critical national security work being done in Rome.”
