Meier, who served in the state Legislature representing the 47th District which included Oneida County, was the Republican and Conservative candidate for New York’s 24th Congressional District in 2006.
“Hanna has done a good job for us in Washington,” Meier said. “That’s because he has remained focused on his constituents at home. He is a tireless advocate for our region, and he understands that an elected official’s top priority should be to foster an atmosphere that allows private sector job creation to flourish.”
Meier also served as Oneida County Executive from 1991 to 1996 where he proposed six straight balanced budgets. He said Hanna’s experience in the private sector is an asset in Congress.
“Having spent 30 years building and running his own business in upstate New York, Richard brings real world experience many elected officials lack to his work on the House Small Business Committee and the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee,” Meier said. “I share Richard’s core commitment to fiscal conservatism, small business promotion and honest and open government.”
Meier continued, “I do not always agree with him, but I do know I can always count on his integrity, independent judgment and complete dedication to this community.”
“We need more proven practical leaders and job creators in Washington working to return prosperity and opportunity to the Mohawk Valley,” Meier said. “That’s why I support Richard Hanna as my Congressman. I encourage all Republicans to support Richard Hanna in the primary election on Tuesday, June 24.”
Hanna said it is a privilege to have the support of a dedicated community leader like Meier.
“Ray worked for years as an elected leader to better this community and he continues to do so now in the private sector,” Hanna said. “It is an honor to have earned his support.”
The primary election is Tuesday, June 24 and polls are open from noon to 9 p.m.
